Olympics 2012: Mary Kom settles for bronze; Luka in semi-finals

India's star woman boxer MC Mary Kom settled for the bronze medal after losing her 51kg semifinal bout against Great Britain's world number two Nicola Adams, while Tintu Luka eased into the semifinals of the 800m race on Day 12 of the Olympic Games here today.
"Magnificent Mary", from Manipur, fought bravely but just could not breach the defence of her taller rival Adams, a two-time World Championship runner-up in the flyweight division, and was outclassed 11-6 at the ExCel Arena to shatter the Indian supermom's gold medal hopes.
With no box-off in the programme for the losing semifinalists, Mary got one of the two bronze medals on offer in the weight class. Her medal would be awarded at the end of the gold medal contest tomorrow between Adams and China's world champion Ren Cancan.
